I first heard Martyn on the Thistle & Shamrock 11 years ago. I tracked down his self titled album and was hooked. When I heard Bothy Culture I felt a greater connection as he paid tribute to Islamic/Eastern traditions. I have been looking for the Mactv documentary for some time and if any one has any info on this I would greatly appreciate it. To Martyn I bid Salaam.

hi doug

The track in question is called 'Spree' and is from the album 'Hardland'.
You can hear a selection of tracks from it using this link: http://www.martynbennett.com/album_03_hardland_01.html but the chances of you being able to get hold of the album at present is not good news since Hardland is currently out of production.

I was personally introduced to MB while in college from a friend whom I've lost touch with (Hi Fred B.! Miss you!(. I saw him perform at a local club in Ottawa, Canada during my undergrad days. I have two of his records and simply adore them. While talking with a friend about originality in music, I googled MB only to find that he was gone. Shocked, I still think that he influenced a number of decisions in my life and shaped my view on what I think of music and how I appreciate different cultures today. Peace kids, and remember - there's a bit of Celtic in all of us.

I was in a party recently and another musician who is a friend of mine started a conversation about musical influences, and the name Bennett came up, without realising we were talking about the same person, so we had a good chat about an amazing musician who I met briefly in ABerdeen when I was a very different person than I am now. Well he will no doubt be missed in his community and his music has touched the hearts of many more.
Universal Blessings !

Hi,

Does anyone know where I could find "Hardland"? All the mayor cd shops seem not to have that one... But I heard some samples, and I need to hear more!

Thanks,
Gregor

TransAtlantic Sessions - BBC2 - Spring 1996 "MacCrimmon's Lament" video uploaded in the Media section.

MacCrimmon's Lament ["Cumha mhic Criomein"] is a famous pipe tune composed by Donald Bàn MacCrimmon.
It is said that it was written when the Clan MacLeod, led by their chief, rallied to the cause of Bonnie Prince Charlie in the Jacobite Uprising of 1745-46. MacCrimmon supposedly had a premonition that he and many of the clan would not return from the fighting. That proved to be the case, as MacCrimmon was killed in a skirmish near Moyhall and many of the clan perished at Culloden.
