My dad is 91 years of age and comes from Glen Lyon but has lived in Golspie in Sutherland for the last 55 years. He hears the Glen Lyon lament on TV last week for the first time and he said it made the hair stand up on the back of his neck.
Martyn was a musical genius and makes us proud to be Scottish.

What a genius. I wish I had met Martyn, I was also raised amongst Scottish traditional music and culture with my parents both being performers. I also play the pipes but could never be as good as MB even if I practiced for 300 years.
I really enjoy Martyn's music he has left behind a legacy.

Amazing Laddie!!

Best regards

Gregor

Met Martyn by chance at a Salsa Celtica gig in Tobermorey, he was playing some amazing stuff both my wife & I have never heard. I approached, had a good chat not even realizing who he was & the depth of talent he had. He told me that there was a few records I could get with similar stuff he was playing on the night. I found the chat really personal as we discussed that my father also had NHLymphoma, he was inspired that my father is still going strong at 65. My wife came away that night thinking what a talented top guy! Next few days by chance I found Bothy culture! in a Glasgow music store, didnt get to play the cd until we returned home to Sydney Australia. On a quiet night we sat back with a glass of Glenmorangie & ice looking at our holiday trip back to our beautiful Scotland, played the cd to which we were transported back to that magical summers night in Tobermorey that we will never forget when we met a man who truly made our night. We were deeply saddened to hear of his passing especially given we share the same age, too young. I have been passing on the depth of talent of this fine fellow countryman down under ever since we returned. Recently I heard Martyn playing Scottish small pipes in concert!! I sat listening in awe of this mans talent yet so humble a person that night in Tobermorey.

Martyn Bennett lives forever... somewhere in Australia.

By far the best gig i have attended in years: Martyn Bennett Night Queens Hall on Saturday. Youth and experience, creativity and verve across all the acts, brilliant performances, variety from jazz commissions to a marvellous indian dance interpretation of one of MB pieces.
The programme was beautifully arranged and concluded with an outstanding performance from Cuillin music which had the venerable Queens Hall shaking as folk took to the floor... Martyn would have approved of the sheer inventiveness of it all.

We are really looking forward to the Martyn Bennett Night on 27 October. Having been at the Celtic Connections show a couple of years ago, we can't wait for this one. The line up looks fantastic and we had a call from the Queen's Hall the other day to say that the seating arrangement has been changed to tables 'cabaret style', which sounds great. See you there!
