Really sad, sad news. My first contact with his music was at a festival in France [St. Chartier] in 199? - years ago.
He was one of the finest musicians I ever knew .

Good luck

Best wishes from Germany, Ute

Thursday, October 26th 2006 - 8pm
Venue: The Queens Hall, Edinburgh

Mr McFall’s Chamber bring a programme of music by Martyn Bennett [featuring Fraser Fifield on small pipes, Tom Bancroft and James Mackintosh on percussion], as well as songs by Jacques Brel, Goldfrapp and Kurt Weill [featuring singer Taylor Wilson] and music from Cuba and Mexico [probably].

I visited Scotland in 1998, saw a concert of Martyn Bennett on TV. I bought "Bothy Culture" the very next day and took it home to Germany, listening to it over and over again. Life went on, I remembered it today, wanted to check if there is anything new - and had to learn that in fact there is - sad, sad news. There is a lot more to my mind now, than I can say - but basically I feel pretty smashed.

What is your favourite Martyn Bennett album?

A poll has been added on the right side of the homepage [just below the Celtic Connections Logo] and it would be interesting to find out, from the many visitors to this website, what is seen as Martyn's most popular album.

Of course this is not seen as being a definitve outcome... just a bit of fun.

Excellent work! Maybe it is hard to find something pleasant for me, but in fact there are the things like your site, bringing a sheer pleasure!

Glen Lyon is readily available from amazon, and just to add that I met Martyn several times when I worked in a hi-fi shop in Edinburgh and he was an amazingly vibrant man and I feel I'm very lucky to have met him, he gave me a copy of some demo's from the Hardland CD, I shall cherish them always.

My favourite track is "How It Got There", its such a wild drinking, dancing and party of a song, makes me grin like an idiot everytime I play it, but to be honest every album is inspired.

A sad loss.

Mark

My ancestors came from Scotland, so when I first heard Martyn Bennett, something very old woke up inside. I play this music in my studio and create whole new worlds. Sadly I cannot find a copy of "Glen Lyon" anywhere and would love to know where I might buy one. Blessings on Martyn and Margaret!
