Mull Grand Traverse 2008

Mull Grand Traverse 2008

The Mull Grand Traverse is the Martyn Bennett Trust's exciting adventure challenge which is being held on Saturday 23rd August 2008. The challenge has both bike and foot phases and includes different finishes from 39km to 86km to suit people of all fitness and experience levels.

The Mull Grand Traverse is raising money for both the Marie Curie and Martyn Bennett Trust

The Mull Grand Traverse was conceived, created and completed by some of Martyn’s friends in 2005 after his death to remember Martyn in the place he loved so much and raise money for his Trust as well as the Marie Curie who had helped him near the end of his life.

All that started the run finished having crossed some of the most amazing terrain and whilst unwinding over a beer and sharing the war stories of the day it was decided that the Mull Grand Traverse would open up to the public.

Mull Grand Traverse Event Information

After tweaking the route we have settled on a combination forest tracks, ancient drovers roads, rugged coastal paths and tough mountain terrain. The route begins on the bike from Tobermory, after a scenic 39km participants will arrive at the Bronze finish which is also the transition to the foot phase of the event. Those that continue can go onto the Silver, Gold or the seriously tough Platinum finish depending on how good or indeed bad they’re feeling!

On finishing all participants will be transported to Torosay Castle where Chris and Sarah James will host a shindig in the grounds of this marvellous 1859 Baronial style castle. The challengers will have a chance to ease those weary muscles with a relaxing massage from one of the therapists from Athletes Angels before getting stuck into the party where we will have a  feast, drinks, music and dancing.

We are excited to have the Sorren MacLean band from Mull headlining the party, over last 18 months they have been going from strength to strength, playing some great gigs and receiving amazing reviews. We are also privileged to have Martyn’s favourite DJ, Dolphin Boy providing an eclectic mix of tunes to see the night in.
